Plex API Access

Control which roles can call Plex data sources and Plex APIs from a direct script run.

Open Plex API Access. This gates which roles can call Plex data sources (plex.execute) and Plex Connect APIs (plex.api.call) from a direct script run — running a script by hand in the editor or via the AI Assistant. It is off by default.

Scope: This restricts direct script runs only. Apps, automations, scheduled jobs, and dashboards are exempt and always allowed. When enforcement is on with no roles checked, direct script runs cannot use Plex at all.

Enabling enforcement

1. Check Enforce Plex API access.
2. Under Allowed roles, check the roles whose members may use Plex from a direct script run.
3. Click Save settings.
