Scanning, receipts and Undo
Scanning, receipts and Undo
How to scan, how the app tells what you scanned, what each receipt means, working without signal, and undoing a scan.
Ways to scan
- The handheld's trigger on a Zebra or Honeywell handheld. It is always ready: you never need to tap a box first.
- A plug-in or Bluetooth scanner that types what it reads.
- Use camera at the bottom of a scanning screen, on any phone.
- Type it in the box Type a serial, location or number and press Enter.
On the Scan tab, Last scan shows how each scan arrived: via trigger, via scanner, via camera or via typed.
Each scan answers with a sound and a buzz. A short high tone and one buzz means OK. Two low tones and two long buzzes means refused. Three rising tones mean done. The buzz plays even when the phone's sound is off.
The barcode decides what it is
You never choose a mode. The app reads the shape of the barcode:
| Barcode | Read as | Example shape |
|---|---|---|
| 7 digits, or 1 to 3 letters then 5 or more digits | Container | 1234567, SJ008486 |
| M and 6 digits | Master unit | M000387 |
| SH- and digits | Shipper | SH-20817 |
| D- and text | Die | D-1042 |
| LANE and a number | Lane | LANE 4 |
| DOOR and a number, or 3 letters, a dash and 4 digits | Door or trailer | DOOR 3, ABC-1234 |
| 2 to 4 letters, a dash and 2 digits | Workcenter | PRS-01 |
| 1 or 2 digits, a letter, 1 or 2 digits | Location | 12B03 |
| BADGE: or BADGE- and a value | Badge | BADGE:4471 |
To move a container to a location whose name has no fixed shape, such as 200T, use Inventory → Move / load, which accepts any location name.
The Scan tab
The quickest way to move a container, or to jump to the right screen:
- Scan a container, then a location: the container moves there. The receipt reads {serial} → {location}.
- Scan a shipper, door or trailer: Shipping's scan load opens with it.
- Scan a workcenter: the checks due at that workcenter open.
- Scan a die: Tool lookup opens for it.
For about 10 seconds after a move, Undo sends the container back to where it was.
Receipts
Every scan that changes Plex shows a receipt at once. You can carry on scanning; the receipt keeps up by itself.
| Receipt | Means |
|---|---|
| ⧗ Held — goes to Plex in {n}s | Kept on the phone for 10 seconds so you can undo it. See Undo below. |
| … waiting for Plex | DataMagik has it and is sending it to Plex. |
| ⏱ queued · sends when you're back online | No signal. It is saved on the phone and goes when you reconnect. |
| ✓ in Plex | Plex did it, and DataMagik read it back to make sure. |
| ✕ and a reason | Refused. Nothing was changed in Plex. |
A scan that is only queued never shows as done.
Working without signal
Keep scanning. Each scan is saved on the phone, encrypted, and sent as soon as there is a connection, even if the app is closed and opened again. Each scan is recorded only once, even if it is sent twice. Two scans of the same container go to Plex in the order you made them. My work lists everything under Waiting for Plex.
Some things need a connection at the time: lookups, photos, RFID tagging and the dock door check. Releasing a hold and scrapping should be done with signal, because the PIN you enter is only good for a few minutes.
When Plex refuses
If Plex or DataMagik refuses a scan after you have moved on, a red card appears over whatever screen you are on, with the refused sound: Not done in Plex, what it was and why. The reason is Plex's own words where Plex gave them, for example Plex has no location 12Z9, so SJ008486 was not moved (nothing was written).
- OK closes the card. The item stays in My work under Needs a fix until you tap OK there.
- Ask why opens the Assistant, which explains the refusal and what to do. It needs the Assistant on your role.
- Your role can't … means your role does not allow that action. Ask your supervisor.
- Plex didn't answer. means Plex could not be reached after several tries. Scan it again later, or ask your supervisor.
Undo
Where a screen offers Undo, it works one of two ways, because Plex can reverse some actions and not others.
- Held for 10 seconds: merges, loading onto a shipper, shipping, and dock door auto-loads. The scan waits on the phone with Undo · {n}s. Tap it and nothing is sent: Cancelled · nothing was sent to Plex. Your next scan sends anything held straight away, so you never have to wait. Leaving the screen or closing the app does not lose it.
- Sent at once, with a reverse: moves and workcenter loads go to Plex straight away. Undo within 10 seconds sends a move back to where each container was, or an unload. If the app never learned where a container was, for example because there was no signal, it says Can't undo, location unknown.
Splits, master unit changes, holds, releases and scrap have no Undo. Check before you confirm.
Printing
Labels print to the first printer online in your zone, set on Me under My zone. A note shows Printed to {printer} or Not printed with why, for example Set your zone on the Me screen to print.
